Sharing Reports, Correcting Errors, and Your FCRA Rights
You have real rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act over reports run on you — here's how to share a report and how to dispute something inaccurate.
Sharing a report with a landlord
Open any completed report and use Share this report to generate a time-limited link. Choose how long it stays active — between 1 and 30 days (7 days by default) — then copy the link to send to a landlord. It's view-only: whoever opens it can see the report without logging into VerticalRent, but can't edit it, re-order it, or see any of your other reports.
You're always in control: you can revoke an active share link at any time, which immediately cuts off access, and you can create a new link later if you need to share again.
If a landlord requested reports as part of an application (rather than one of your self-ordered My Reports), sharing works a bit differently — you review the completed reports on the application itself and click I Consent — Share My Reports to release them to that specific landlord. That consent only applies to that application; it's separate from the general share-link feature described above.
Your rights under the FCRA
- You can request a copy of any report run on you
- You can dispute information you believe is inaccurate or incomplete
- Disputed items must be reinvestigated, and corrected or deleted if they turn out to be wrong — within 30 days, per FCRA § 611
- If a reinvestigation doesn't resolve your dispute, you can add a brief statement to your file
- You must be notified if a report contributed to a denial — see Understanding Application Decisions and Adverse Action Notices
Filing a dispute
Open the report in question and use the Dispute this report section:
- Select what's inaccurate — criminal records, eviction records, rental/address history, your name/date of birth/other identifiers, or something else
- Explain the issue in your own words (10–4,000 characters)
- Optionally attach a link to supporting evidence, such as a court record or a scanned document
Submitting creates a tracked dispute with a reference code. ScreenForge Labs, LLC — the Consumer Reporting Agency behind these reports — investigates under FCRA § 611 within 30 days. You'll see the status right on the report (Received → Under investigation → Resolved or Closed), and every dispute you've ever filed is listed under FCRA disputes on the My Reports page. While a dispute is open on a report, that report shows your open dispute's status instead of a new dispute form — you don't need to (and can't) file a second one on the same report until it's resolved.
